5th February 1986 – Nick’s House and Nothing Happening

(School Strike Week)

Me Sylv and Rae went to Nick’s house. Nothing happened. So we went to John’s house. Nothing happened again. So I decide I want to go back to Nick’s but the other two don’t. Anyway, I persuade them to come. We walk down Nick’s road and in front of us are Nick’s roadies Rocks and Koren. We followed them to Nick’s house. They went in so we thought Nick might be in. But he wasn’t. Anyway, another ‘geezer’ we didn’t know was there and Rae asked if Nick was in. He said ‘No’. Then Rae said ‘I’m gonna commit suicide’ (obviously joking!) Anyway Nick, this man told us, was making a record in Paris, or somewhere in America. We went home. Not too upset coz now we know where they are. (or was!)

NOTE ABOUT THIS ENTRY

This was a very common occurence. Going to the houses of a band member hoping they would be there! John and Nick didn’t live too far apart. Nick just off the Fulham Road in Kensington and John in Knightsbridge. But it was still a bit of a trek. We would jump on and off buses with a travel card called a Red Bus Rover. Or get on tubes with our child photo cards for the cheapest fares. I have put on the top of this entry that it had been school strike week. There were quite a few strike days/weeks in the 80’s. This to me was excellent as I was 15 at the time and my mum would not let me have any time off school. I was only allowed to see Duran after school, weekends, school holidays and obviously strike days! Handy really!

We were quite often fobbed off by people that worked with Duran. The funny thing was that when we actually MET Duran – they would tell us everything we needed to know, as you will see from future entries!

About thedurandiaries

Long time Duran fan. Followed them since 1985 - and that means physically going to see them! I kept a diary from 1986 and thought it may be funny to write them up on a blog. And the profile picture is of the actual of diary. Yes it has Care Bear stickers on it. But this was the 80's. And Care Bears were cute. View all posts by thedurandiaries
